Bedroom design in Khrushchevka +75 photo examples

The bedroom design in Khrushchev is sometimes difficult to fit into modern stylistic concepts. The houses were built on a typical model without any architectural excesses. The “boxes” were small, cramped and designed to accommodate a functional minimum. The rows of these five-story buildings grew like mushrooms after rain, and the apartments were designed for temporary use. The era of the construction of Khrushchev began in the late 50s of the last century and lasted almost 30 years. They received their specific name in honor of the then General Secretary of the CPSU Central Committee. The main distinctive features of Khrushchev steel are poor sound and heat insulation. Years passed and the fact that it was planned to use no more than a dozen years has stood for almost half a century now. After the collapse of the USSR, housing prices increased so much that it was considered luck to be the owner of even a typical, outdated “box”. Any homeowner in such an outdated house will sooner or later decide to redevelop and repair. Let's try to figure out how to equip a small bedroom, so that its features do not interfere with one of the modern design trends.

Types of bedrooms

Although the construction had a typical character, over 30 years many projects were created, each of which was strikingly different from its predecessors. Work was carried out on the bugs, taking into account the desires of the national consumer. Among the so-called series, there are six of the most popular. Bedrooms in them differ in size, layout and location in the apartment relative to other rooms.

By planning

According to the planning of the bedroom in the Khrushchev can be divided into two types:

  • The correct form. Usually, these are rectangular rooms;
  • Irregular shape. Here there are architectural "sophistication" for every taste. Such bedrooms could be in the forms of multifaceted geometric shapes or have niches, the purpose of which was never completely unraveled by anyone (they were more often used as storerooms).

Even the owners of rectangular bedrooms have to face difficulties. The narrow space is difficult to arrange, since all the furniture is usually located along one wall, while the other remains empty, so as not to obstruct the passage. As a result, part of the area, which is so badly lacking, remains unused. As a rule, such elongated bedrooms accommodate only the functional minimum: a wardrobe, a bed and a couple of bedside tables. On the opposite wall now you can hang a flat TV, which will not eat extra meters. But more often it is heavily decorated to close the void, which will be evident. Ideal for the design of such a room is considered the style of minimalism. As a rule, the area of bedrooms in the Khrushchev houses does not exceed 12 sq.m. Compared with spacious studios, these rooms look more like a compact bed. But even they can be refined and completely deduced the "spirit" of standardization. Owners of one-room apartments, which are plotting redevelopment, often allocate even less space for the bedroom (about 8 square meters). Such tiny rooms are the result of the separation of the very rectangular rooms. To “split” them along is not possible, therefore it turns out two rooms of square shape. Unfortunately, the window in them is only one and not the fact that they decide to leave it just under the rest room. In this case, you will have to competently work on a multi-level lighting, which completely replaces the natural.

To size

In size there are three types of bedrooms in the Khrushchev:

  • 12 square meters A wide bed, two tiny bedside tables and a closet for storing things fit into such a room. To fit the “boudoir” addition - a dressing table with a mirror and a chair or a pouf is quite difficult. To do this, you will have to “sacrifice” one of the bedside tables or a wardrobe. The problem disappears if one person sleeps in a room and the bed is narrow enough for him.
  • 8-10 square meters. In such bedrooms, the requirements for the minimum of furniture are even tougher: one bed and a dressing table, a workplace, two bedside tables or a narrow wardrobe to choose from. Preference is given to the interior object in which there is a great need.
  • 6 square meters. m. In such tiny bedrooms fit only a double bed and nightstand. Workplace or dressing table is replaced with a specially designed window sill. A convenient option for such a room would be a folding sofa, which will turn into a bed at night, and in the daytime when assembled it will free up more space.

An ergonomic solution would be to place a corner built-in wardrobe. This form will make this piece of furniture inconspicuous. Embedded system to the ceiling economically dispose of the space.

By location

The location of the bedroom is divided into two types:

  • "Independent" rooms. They, as a rule, are located in two- and three-room apartments. These bedrooms are used only for their intended purpose;
  • Combined options. They are used in apartments that "survived" a complete redevelopment and demolition of all internal partitions. Thus from the outdated Khrushchev modern studio is obtained.

In the latter case, the room is zoned in the following ways:

  • Furnished. Ideal for these purposes is suitable through the rack;
  • Partitions. Both “monumental” and mobile structures are used;
  • Different materials of finishing;
  • Color or light;
  • An improvised "pedestal" on the floor on which the bed is erected.

"Studio" option is not recommended for use in Khrushchev, if there are several people. As a result, the free “zone” for one will turn into a complete lack of personal space for all other household members.

Interior design and design

Before you begin to repair and design of the premises, it is necessary to determine the style. For each direction is characterized by certain materials. In the small bedroom organically look minimalism, Scandinavian and industrial style. In some cases, use a more "noble" variation of the latter - the loft. For minimalism is characterized by the use of expensive, natural materials. Repair in this style budget will not work. In the decoration prevail stone, metal, light or dark wood. The color scheme is chosen from calm, neutral tones: white, black, gray. Scandinavian style uses a combination of blue, green and blue. The simplicity of decoration is compensated by the few, but stylish decor. Loft prefers untreated surfaces. The wall with exposed brickwork became the hallmark of style. He also uses simple furniture and minimal decor, which makes it possible to rationally place accents.

Walls

In small bedrooms, walls are usually trimmed practically and simply:

  • Pasted over with wallpaper. In this case, it is allowed to use only monochromatic colors with light, obscure patterns (white flowers on soft peach). Vertical stripes, large prints and bright shades fall under the taboo.
  • Color The most budget option. It is used if the Khrushchev's walls are perfectly smooth and have no visible defects, which is quite rare. Plain walls will be a good background for placing the original decor.
  • Combined options. Relevant in cases where the owners want to revive the situation without weighing it down. Accent wall (above the head of the bed) is usually covered with wallpaper, imitating natural material, and the rest are painted.

There are still a number of types of finishes that are not recommended for use in small bedrooms: plasterboard, porcelain stoneware, PFH panels, wooden lining, cork flooring.

Floor

For finishing the floor using the following materials:

  • Linoleum. Refers to budget options. Lay roll material can be your own hands without the involvement of specialists.
  • Carpet. Whimsical in care, as it collects dust.
  • Floorboard. It has an average cost and is suitable only for a specific style decision.
  • Laminate. Some types of material (office) withstand heavy loads.
  • Porcelain stoneware. Heavy duty material. Great combination of quality and price.
  • Ceramic tile. It is difficult to fit into the bedroom interior, as the material causes persistent associations with the kitchen and bathroom.

The color of the flooring is chosen neutral without bright accents. To expensive options include self-leveling floors. They fit well on any foundation, are impact resistant, durable and provide a smooth and smooth surface. It can be matte or glossy to your choice.

Ceiling

For the design of the ceiling space using the following materials:

  • Decorative plaster. It is relatively inexpensive and allows you to simulate any complexity of the texture.
  • Paint. Outdated, but practical option. Once a couple of years, such a coating will have to be changed due to fading and cracking.
  • Ceiling tile. In order to serve the material for a long time, give preference to the injection or extruded type. The lifetime of the cheapest “stamping” will be no more than 5 years.
  • Plasterboard structures and suspended ceiling. For bedrooms in Khrushchev are rarely used, as they eat extra centimeters, which is impermissible at low ceilings.

Lighting

Selection of lighting in the bedroom is not only the visual expansion of space, but also the creation of warmth and comfort. Sources of light in addition to local (functional areas) should provide multi-level. Since the height of the rooms is small, in the ceiling lighting it is necessary to give preference to the luminaire bush (similar to a flat chandelier). Visually "pull out" the room will help sconces on the walls, which will shine vertically. Yellow and warm spectrum are better for rest. The location of the sources should be provided so that it is "advantageous" to use the style of finishing the room (wallpaper design, decorative elements, stucco molding, etc.). Original solutions are directional ceiling lights of warm light, located above the window. The use of floor lamps in a small room is not recommended, so as not to hide the extra space. They are completely replaced by a sconce or lamp on the bedside table. Depending on the lifestyle of the owners, it is possible to install the lower (night) row of illumination of the floor or bed using LEDs. In a room with a missing window is to place the upper lamp with adjustable intensity, as it will be the main source of light in the daytime.

Furniture and decor items

Before choosing room furnishing, it is necessary to correlate your needs with the room facilities. Naturally the bed, cabinets and wardrobe should match the chosen style. When selecting the situation, they are guided by its dimensions and appearance. In minimalism, use objects with straight lines and sharp corners. Their color range is relatively "poor" in neutral colors. Loft does not recognize clear limitations in form or color. The main thing is that the furniture is in harmony with the decoration of the room. Scandinavian style prefers light wood and textiles in white and blue colors.

Bed

In rooms of more than 9 square meters it is quite easy to fit a double bed. In the standard layout, space is left under one of the walls and the bed is placed in such a way that a wide passage remains. A real gift for the owners is the correct form of the room. There is no problem with arranging furniture in a rectangular or square room. For rooms of non-standard forms, a special situation is selected, sometimes even on order, so that not a single centimeter should fall into the "useless" zone and be lost. The bedrooms are less than 9 square meters. m spacious bed is difficult to fit. If the room is designed for a child or teenager, then even two households will fit on a bunk bed, which will take up minimal space and save space. Unfortunately, this practical option is only suitable for children's rooms and is completely unsuitable for a couple who do not want to huddle in separate beds. In this case, it is worth thinking about multi-functional furniture. Folding sofa will save the situation.

In small rooms fit round beds, their cut corners free space. If the bed is also white, then this option will add “airiness” to the bedroom.

Cabinets

The relatively spacious bedrooms feature large wardrobes or built-in walk-in closets. An economical option would be the corner furniture, which looks beautiful and does not interfere. For small rooms use open storage systems. Racks or a series of wall shelves most often play their role. The main advantage of this method of organization is their ability to “unload” space. Of course the entire wardrobe fit on such shelves will not work, but they will be in addition to the main closet, which is set in the living room.

Curbstones and dressers

In tiny bedrooms, these interior objects are becoming a luxury. It’s almost impossible to make room for them, which is inconvenient, since there is no place to hide the “small things”. The window sill is reissued under the tabletop, and under it they organize a narrow area for storing combs and cosmetics, which will replace the chest of drawers. In larger rooms, they abandon symmetry and install only one bedside table. The vacated space, which was intended second, is used to accommodate a wide chest of drawers with a mirror and a soft pouf. By the way, the symmetrical placement of furniture is used only in classic styles. Three modern areas that are chosen for bedrooms in the Khrushchev, calmly refers to the unpaired elements in the design of the room.

Decor

Bedrooms are not recommended to overload with decorative elements. The room intended for recreation should not be like a pantry with vases, figurines and souvenirs. Loft-style wall decoration is already considered the main part of the decor. It is complemented by thematic paintings or posters. In minimalism, use only empty vases of simple shapes, wall sconces or a collage (triptych) with the image of peaceful landscapes. In the Scandinavian style choose animal skins on the floor, the national ornament of the northern peoples in textiles or panoramas with winter nature. Each style is enlivened by a pair of indoor plants in high pots, which are placed directly on the floor. Sill for these purposes is not used, as this may limit the flow of natural light into the bedroom.

Settlement Tips

To save space when making a bedroom in Khrushchev use the following tricks:

  • Mobile storage space. Small, neat boxes are placed in a corner in a slight mess. This stylish solution is used in all types of premises.
  • Working area equip near the window. The window sill is transformed into a narrow tabletop, where functional minimum is placed.
  • Bedside tables replace the high (up to the ceiling) narrow racks on both sides of the bed. In the color scheme they prefer light shades in order not to weigh down the space.
  • A similar storage area is arranged above the head of the bed. For these purposes, choose narrow shelves that will not hang over the sleeping.
  • If the bed is located on a pedestal, then this decorative element is filled with drawers.

The real way to increase the room is to use only light colors in the design with a pair of contrasting accents that will draw attention to themselves and slightly impersonal the rest of the situation, thereby allowing it to “breathe”.

Conclusion

Although Khrushchev and built as a temporary housing, their operation was delayed for many years and, apparently, this is not a record. Even the old “box” can be transformed beyond recognition. Modern design solutions allow you to equip any room in accordance with the latest fashion trends. Take a couple of tricks, create a project of redevelopment and repair, and your bedroom will get a chance for a second life.
