Kitchen design in the style of minimalism

The kitchen is one of the most important premises of an apartment, a country house. Here they cook and eat food, relax with a cup of tea and work on a laptop, sometimes they even receive guests. One of the most popular styles today is minimalism. This style is suitable for designing cramped kitchens in the "Khrushchev", as well as for modern spacious kitchen premises in new buildings.

Features and main features of the style

Interiors with a minimum amount of furniture are chosen mainly by residents of large cities, leading an active lifestyle, who do not want to clutter their homes. The style appeared at the junction of modernism, constructivism, and Japanese cultural traditions.

Its main features are:

  • the minimum amount of furniture - only the most necessary;
  • decor, textiles are also extremely small;
  • all items in the kitchen are as functional as possible;
  • no more than three colors are used - usually neutral, but bright accents are allowed;
  • kitchen appliances, exclusively built;
  • abundance of artificial, natural light;
  • the simplest finish of all surfaces.

If possible, one should observe the symmetry of the furniture arrangement, the rule of the middle, when significant objects are placed in the center of the wall.

For an exact match to the style, the room should look uninhabited, have almost no signs of daily human activity.

Color features

The colors are used mostly neutral, occasionally complemented by bright contrasts. A maximum of two or three colors are used, and mostly, which is most often white, accounts for about 60% of the total space design, up to 30% is occupied by the second color scheme, and another 10% are small contrasts. The smaller the kitchen, the brighter the finish is.

The most commonly used color combinations are:

  • snow white with black;
  • corn yellow with gray;
  • alabaster with brick red;
  • light green with pale gray;
  • creamy with purple-black;
  • denim blue with pale almond;
  • beige with graphite;
  • red and scarlet with green and blue;
  • smoky white with olive brown.

Utensils, storage organizers, table textiles are selected appropriate style.

Materials, ways of finishing

Finishing is chosen the most simple, it is possible to combine practically any materials:

  • tree;
  • a rock;
  • glass;
  • plastic;
  • paint;
  • wallpaper;
  • metal;
  • linoleum;
  • cork coating;
  • ceramic tiles.

The quality of design is above all. It is not recommended to use many different materials at the same time - a maximum of three or four is enough.

Walls

The walls are made mainly in cold or neutral colors. For small rooms, with windows facing north, warm bright colors are allowed. Apply paint, plastic or MDF panels, plain wall tiles, wallpaper in the dining, working area. Decor on the walls use the minimum amount - a clock, a pair of paintings-abstractions, photos in the framework. It is acceptable to use photo wallpapers on one of the walls, but only as the only bright contrast in the whole room.
The doors are made of wood, MDF, matching the color of the floor, baseboards, contrasting or merging with the walls. Their texture is chosen as simple as possible, a large number of inserts, the panels are inappropriate here.

A clear geometric pattern on the wallpaper is sometimes appropriate, but no more than two-color - black on white, gray on beige, brown on silver, yellow on pale blue

Floor

For the floor in a private house, apply a stone, large-sized floor tiles, granite, in a city apartment - floorboard, laminate, linoleum. Sometimes satisfied with self-leveling floors. All coatings are preferred light colors - greenish-gray, pale graphite, smoky beige, wood shades. You can make the floor and other colors, but combined with other elements of the interior - countertops, kitchen apron. Carpets are used extremely rarely exclusively monophonic.

The floor is made at least two or three tones darker than the walls - this is how a “stable” interior is created, a support for furniture and legs.

Ceiling

The ceiling is made exclusively in white or its shades - beige, creamy, pearl, cream, linen. It can be glossy or matte. The use of textile ceilings, photo printing, any types of painting, stucco is not allowed. In rare cases, mirrors are used, bright ceiling tiles are exceptionally smooth. Most often, the ceiling is simply painted or stretched. You can make a multi-level ceiling with the original lighting, but when the kitchen area is only five to seven square meters, it creates a depressing impression.

Design, lighting organization

Lighting will suit the most diverse, but it takes a lot - the lighter the better. Light needs a natural, outdoor and artificial, produced by lamps. So that it easily penetrates through the window, the latter is decorated with Roman or roller curtains, the thinnest transparent curtains, light or contrasting curtains are hung. Artificial lighting is done using:

  • spotlights;
  • chandeliers over the dining, work area;
  • hidden headset backlight;
  • bus lights;
  • LED ceiling lights.

Bulk lights are not allowed here. Track structures are mounted on a special rail or flexible busbar, hinged cabinets are illuminated by LED tape, the bottom of the headset. The table top, the dining group is illuminated by a lamp, whose height above the table is adjustable.

If you highlight the set, the perimeter of the walls, the ceiling, you get a very interesting, mysterious atmosphere.

Choosing a kitchen, furniture

Proper minimalist furnishings are functional, comfortable. It is important to choose all in a single stylistic design. Some acquire a whole set at once - many firms sell furniture for the kitchen in complete sets, which includes:

  • headset;
  • dinner table;
  • chairs;
  • kitchen sofa;
  • Appliances.

In cramped kitchens, the table is replaced with a bar counter, and the cabinet is replaced with kitchen niches. Virtually all available dishes, kitchen utensils are hidden behind the fronts of the headset or in the drawers of the corner sofa. The furnishing is selected in strict geometric forms, with the simplest possible finish. Lockers are closed exclusively with "blind" doors, glass is not allowed.

It is desirable to arrange the kitchen unit so that the distance between the cooking zone, the sink, the refrigerator is no more than one and a half meters.

Set - table top, facades

The set is chosen monophonic, without too much decoration, volume accessories, milling, with the simplest texture. The facades are glossy or matte, contrasting with the apron, the walls or merging with them in a monochrome interior, the hood neatly complements the construction. Combinations of materials for the manufacture of a variety of applied:

  • natural wood for facades and natural stone, as tabletop material;
  • MDF facades and steel for worktops;
  • frame facades covered with PVC film and laminate on the countertop.

The kitchen layout, that is, options for the location of the headset, there are the following:

  • U-shaped - the furniture is located along three walls; a sill is often used as an additional working plane. There are many storage places, corner lockers are equipped with special withdrawable devices that allow to use the inner space to the maximum. In a large room, the dining area is located in the middle or near the free wall; in a small suite, it is equipped with a folding bar counter.
  • L-shaped - the headset is placed along two walls, the working area is insulated, in the center of the room, the dining area - in any free space. This is the most common layout, as it leaves plenty of room to move. This set is suitable for both square and rectangular kitchen. If the room is passing, it will also be convenient.
  • Linear or galley - the headset is placed along one wall, dining area, places for recreation - along the opposite. Usually they use long walls, less often - short ones, but then such a layout substantially corrects the shape of the room.
  • The island is less common, as it is suitable for a kitchen of at least 18-20 square meters. For smaller spaces, a compact mini-kitchen is purchased, into which everything you need is built. The shape of the island is square, rectangular, semicircular, U-shaped, asymmetrical. Sometimes, on one side of a large island set, a bar is mounted or a sofa is attached. If the headset is illuminated from below with LED strip, it will look floating in the air.

In a minimalist kitchen, large sinks are required - one or two of them are made. It is better to place the refrigerator near the door, but away from the stove, preferably built-in. It is important to follow the rule of the working triangle - sink-stove-fridge.
Most often, the kitchen is replete with hanging drawers, lockers to the ceiling - this arrangement gives a lot of places for convenient storage. The lower and upper cabinets are sometimes performed in different colors, but the bottom is necessarily made darker. If windows are located on one or two walls, this option is not suitable - preference is given to the lower tier, into which a compact or horizontal refrigerator is built.

When the kitchen is very tight, the headset or one of its sides gets a little standard already, and storage cabinets are made right up to the ceiling.

Apron

The apron is combined with the color of the walls or made a single contrasting accent. Registration is most often different from the rest of the environment - it is made of colored glass, tile, stone, plastic. Sometimes it is the same color as the walls, tabletop, but contrasts with the headset. When used as an accent, it is laid out mosaic of glass, stone, small multi-colored ceramic tiles.

Appliances

All kitchen machines are preferred built-in, hidden behind the doors of the cabinets. In the space of this room are used:

  • refrigerator - horizontal, vertical, compact;
  • gas, electric stove or hob, oven separately;
  • dishwasher - built in under the sink or in another convenient place;
  • microwave - located on a closed shelf, bracket, a height of not more than 100-120 cm;
  • washing machine - if there is enough space;
  • Rarely used devices such as mixers, blenders, juicers, vegetable dryers, grinders are hidden in the lower, upper cabinets.

Between the stove and other equipment, it is necessary to make a distance from forty centimeters - here a work surface is organized. The gas stove should not be placed next to the window - the wind from the street can blow out the fire, it is most harmonious to place it in the middle of one of the walls, having issued an exhaust hood, symmetrically arranged cabinets on both sides. Wiring must withstand the simultaneous inclusion of a large number of equipment, sockets are also done in excess, but they are located in unobtrusive places.

Dining area furniture - choose a table, chairs

The dining area consists of a dining table, the size of which is chosen in accordance with the estimated number of people dining, the size of the room. When the room is large, it is chosen large - very small looks ugly here. The table is selected square, rectangular, round or oval.

Chairs also purchased a sufficient amount of suitable height. They can have soft seats, backs, completely merge with the environment, as well as a table. The dining area is rarely placed in the center of the room - this is not very convenient when the room is small, the table prevents free movement in the kitchen. The ideal option is to put it on one side against the wall opposite the headset.

Instead of chairs for the equipment of the dining area often use a corner sofa, including a modular. It is upholstered in natural or artificial leather, with a single-toned furniture fabric, and in color it is combined with the set or contrasts with it. The configuration of the table in this case is matched to the shape of the sofa.

Furniture design is chosen as simple as possible, the shape is the simplest. Production materials are combined any - a tree, metal, glass, DVP, MDF, plastic.

Textiles for windows, decor

There should not be much decor - a fruit bowl, a couple of plants in pots, one or two paintings with or without simple frames. Bright accents will be heating radiators, combined with the color of kitchen utensils, floor vases, duplicating the pattern of curtains. Brown, yellow, black leather inserts in the design of the sofa, the walls are permissible in the "softened" version of minimalism. When homogeneous surfaces seem overly dull, they are decorated with a wavy pattern.
Textiles need the most simple monophonic, with a straightforward texture. Curtains on the windows are preferable to match in color with a headset, a corner sofa. Light pastel colors are preferred. The dining area is separated by a carpet, it is chosen not too small in size, which is especially important when the room is spacious. Kitchen towels, tacks are also made to match the color of the walls or the headset. Colorful tablecloths, chair covers, and cushions are out of place here.

Kitchen-living room design

The free layout of modern interiors is very common. The zoning of the spacious kitchen-living room, compact studio is made with the help of artificial or natural stone, glass, bricks, cork, brilliant metal. The living room is separated using partitions, screens, a bar, one of the sides of the U-shaped headset, local lighting. Rarely used zoning color, different heights of ceilings, podiums, straight straight columns.
Having located a sofa or a cabinet with a back to the kitchen, they get a clearly demarcated space. If you plan to sleep on the sofa, on it, for example, a plain blanket, a pair of inconspicuous or contrasting pillows. When the room is small, use a wardrobe bed that folds out at night, a narrow bar counter that is able to fold or slide out, being an extension of the headset. A flat television screen is hung on the wall or placed on a narrow console located in the middle of one of the walls.
The backlight above the rest area is adjustable in brightness, and one or two lamps are also hung above the eating area. The working surface is illuminated with spot LEDs or lamps on flexible brackets. A sink, a working area is sometimes placed at one window, and along another - a bar or sofa, this will allow you to admire the view from the window while eating, cooking, washing dishes.

The whole room is in the same style, it is unnecessary to clutter the space with furniture, the decor is unacceptable.
