Macrame in a modern interior

Making an apartment, a private house, a working office, with the help of knot weaving, will create an extraordinary comfort indoors. In this technique, any rooms are made out, a lot of household items are created, and even a child is able to make some variants of macrame in the interior.

Appearance history

Macrame - one of the most ancient crafts, invented by people. It is believed that it appeared on the day when the historical ancestor of man decided to tie together two thin vines or the veins of a dead animal. It was the very first knot, later many others appeared, the weaving technique was constantly improved, complicated. Some tribes existed "nodular letter", abacus. Initially, a complex system of knots had only a practical purpose: the fishing nets were wound together, individual elements of portable dwellings were made, and on ships sailing into the open sea, there were no knots at all.

Over time, macrame became a decorative art - it began to be used as a decoration of clothing, home draperies, weave amulets, hats, bags and more. Every nation did it differently - silk, woolen, cotton threads, hemp ropes, gold twisting, etc. were used. Macrame was known in many countries of the world - Japan, China, Turkey, India, and then in Russia. Later, circles that teach this art and master classes in glossy magazines and the Internet appeared everywhere.

What styles to use knot decor

A variety of products in the technique of macrame can decorate the interior of almost any style:

  • Classic - color or monophonic, wall or floor mat with tassels, fringe, combined with a wicker cover;
  • minimalism - openwork wicker elements on the windows diversify the modest decoration of the room;
  • country - long curtains of linen, cotton threads, on the windows, doorways, will be an excellent complement;
  • loft - rough abstractions of thick twine on the stone walls, "dream catchers" under the chandeliers look very original;
  • Art Deco - "in the theme" will have chic lampshades with a lot of volumetric details, beads, stones, floor lamps, ceiling lamps;
  • ecological - suspended chairs, wicker of jute, numerous pots with potted plants on the windows, walls will create a unique design.

Too much braided decor in the same room is not desirable to use - preferably two or three elements, combined with each other.

Preparatory work - what you need to know about technology

To get started, you will need:

  • thread, long cord;
  • tape measure;
  • pins, "invisible";
  • wide cushion or pad;
  • scissors.

In the majority of macrame patterns, the threads are divided into basic and working ones - the latter are made four to eight times longer than the intended product, and the first ones are slightly larger than its width. Working threads fasten on the main.

Threads - how, what to choose

Macrame can be woven from very diverse materials, both natural and synthetic:

  • hemp;
  • flax;
  • jute;
  • cotton;
  • sisal;
  • sutazha;
  • polypropylene twine;
  • cord line, etc.

Many craftsmen use clothesline, wire, ribbons, shoelaces, waxed thread, Muline threads, flat braid, and paper twine.

Too fluffy materials are not recommended to use - the pattern of them will be poorly distinguishable.

Mounting methods

The threads are bent in half, by throwing a loop, threading the ends into it, tied on the base, which is fastened with pins to the roller. The loop can be thrown backwards, behind the warp thread, and forward, pulling out from under it - two different knots will be obtained.

In the third variant, one of the previous knots is first tied, then each of the threads is thrown over the base, bends around it, and is threaded into the resulting loop symmetrically.

The fourth option: the thread is put on the upper end under the base, is stabbed, the second end is piled on the base, forming a coil on the right. The second coil is to the left of the top. The lower end of the thread bends around the base, thread into the loop from the bottom, tighten.

As an option, the threads are fixed on a wooden base, which is fixed on the table, the wall with the help of two hooks with suction cups.

All about nodes

Over its history, humanity has created a huge number of nodes, but not all of them are used in modern macrame. Conventionally, they are divided into basic, decorative, auxiliary.

Major:

  • right and left simple nodes;
  • "eight";
  • tie (Slovak);
  • looped left and right;
  • Armenian (sliding);
  • rep;
  • hercules (straight);
  • single flat (helical);
  • double flat (square);
  • triple flat (gourmet);
  • Chinese;
  • "cross";
  • "flower";
  • "button" (double, flat, sliding);
  • ceiling (well);
  • "snake";
  • "mystical";
  • "lotus".

Decorative:

  • "happiness";
  • Turkish;
  • "Josephine";
  • "turban";
  • "fist monkey";
  • petal;
  • "sea rug";
  • shamrock;
  • wreath.

Auxiliary (for the design of the ends of the threads):

  • "Capuchin";
  • "earring".

A variety of weaving patterns

Experienced craftsmen recommend starting weaving with "square" knots, consisting of left and right flat. To do this, take four threads - the first and fourth will be working, the second and third - the main. The first one is passed under the main ones, the fourth one is placed under the first one, but on top of the main ones, the tip is threaded into the first loop. From such knots weave both separate strips, and the whole grids.

Also often used vertical and horizontal rep nodes. Auxiliary cord makes two turns from bottom to top around the base, is passed into the resulting loop, and is tightened. The combination of such nodes is called the brida, which can be made diagonal. In the vast majority of weaving schemes there are rep and square knots.

To decorate the product, in the process of weaving, wooden, plastic beads, pearls, pebbles, and coins with holes are put on the threads.

Modern ideas macrame in the interior

Using nets made in macrame technique, they zone the space of a studio apartment, separating the dining area from the kitchen, isolating the living room or workplace. The mesh is stretched between the floor-to-ceiling slats or from the back of the sofa to special cornices. In the arches, doorways, scattered curtains are made, the headboard in the bedroom is also framed by a wicker pattern. Bright wicker products for children's rooms are very popular - for example, bumpers in a cot, pendants above it. There you can interweave colored beads of different sizes and shapes, so that the kid develops fine motor skills, feeling them.

If there is enough space at home, you can weave, hang a hammock. To this end, a grid with cells of no more than four to seven centimeters is woven from double flat knots, arranged by a "chess". It is fastened with strong carbines on special brackets in the wall, in the garden on a special stand, between two trees.

Wall panel

In Soviet times, many apartments were decorated with a large or small panel in the shape of an owl. She symbolized wisdom, wealth in the house. The basis here is a wooden varnished stick or a metal ring. An obligatory attribute of such a panel is two large eyes, usually made of wooden beads or colored buttons, symbolic wings on the sides, a wooden perch on which the owl supposedly sits. Eyes emit a fringe in all directions, the beak is also made of beads or woven in the form of a pea from flat knots, you can also make legs. The plumage on the abdomen of the bird is also woven from the "peas", openwork, from the diagonal brid. At the bottom of the design is often made a pocket for all sorts of small things, and even lower - a long brush, which is decorated with small beads.

For an average size owl you will need 50-60 meters of twine. You can also make three identical owls of different colors, spreading them in a row on one perch.

Curtains, curtains

Depending on the stylistic design of the interior, the basis for the curtains is a metal cornice with shiny rings, a slightly curved wooden snag. "Summer" curtains will decorate flowers and leaves, "winter" - snowmen and snowflakes. Window drapes with a gradient color transition and fluffy tassels will create a boho style decoration. You can also make a rather rigid curtain of horizontal brides, and sew decorative knots, such as "tree of life" or "Turkish", on top, decorating the bottom with a series of knots "monkey's fist".

In the bedroom of thin light threads weave a canopy over the bed and a curtain cover for the dressing table. For the kitchen, an excellent solution would be curtains made from new, modern, easily washable materials.

The main advantages of macrame curtains:

  • do not collect dust;
  • almost do not get dirty;
  • do not lose shape;
  • Great idea for zoning space;
  • easily made by hand;
  • Do not deprive the room of air.

Among the shortcomings, it is noted only that small children, pets are very interested in “hanging flowers” on the curtains, and cats, ornamental rats, parrots are capable of becoming entangled in them and tear them off.

Floor mats

Rugs are made round, rectangular, less often - asymmetric, complex shape. A small oval rug will be obtained using the "sea rug" node. Using a rather thick, long cord it is easy to create a rug of any size. If you take long colored ribbons or just cut old knitwear into strips five to ten centimeters wide, with rep knots you can weave a carpet of any size for a living room or bedroom. And having cut plastic bags into the same strips, weave a waterproof piece of furniture for a bathroom or a hallway.

A round mat is woven on a regular gymnastic hoop - as a basis, ropes of the required thickness are stretched onto it. Knots are used any - rep, flat, frivolite, etc. After finishing work, the product is cut off from the hoop, the warp threads are fixed, the edges are decorated with tassels, fringe.

Decor accessories

The interior in which some places are separated by an openwork screen looks originally. It does not provide complete privacy, but originally zoned premises. To make a full-fledged screen, a wooden frame with holes, through which ropes, threads, and cords are passed, is bought or made independently. The "filling" of the screen is made dense or openwork. When the work is finished, the threads are neatly tied at the bottom with decorative knots.

Macrame shelves have a wooden or metal base, are hung on the wall, ceiling, bar. If desired, a swing, a hanging chair, a “hanging” table, or a baby crib are made of strong ropes. It is better to make them from durable natural materials with a resistant color.

Wicker coasters under the hot for the kitchen or living room, the entire tablecloth is also easy to make. To do this, measure the width, the length of the tabletop, the product is woven at least 20-30 cm more on each side. The edges are decorated with tassels or decorative knots. Original pillowcases and capes on pillows look organic, especially in retro-interiors - for example, in the stylization of a "grandmother" bedroom in a country house of the middle of the last century.

For weaving chairs, chairs, frame benches, an old strong base is taken or “knocked together” independently. Cords, ropes, require durable - able to withstand the weight of an adult. They should not be stretched, and the weaving is made as dense as possible - otherwise the structure quickly deforms, loses its shape, starts to "sag".

Quite popular shades of macrame. They make floor lamps, wall lamps, ceiling lamps, table lamps, children's night lamps. Here the main thing - fire safety. In no case should the threads touch hot parts. The structure is mounted on a wire frame or an old base. For the manufacture of this product will require 100-150 meters of rope, depending on the pattern chosen.

But the most common product made in macrame technique is a flowerpot. It is hung above the window or on the wall, the basis becomes a durable hook, a special holder, a metal or wooden ring. The pot can be a part of the wall panel, have a wooden base, where a pot with a flower is placed or the flowerpot is woven directly into the pot. As a pattern, straight flat nodes are most often used, and the upper part can consist of only the left or only the right, forming a beautiful spiral. Instead of a pot with a flower, they sometimes twist a beautiful glass jar, a vase, a decanter, etc.

So that numerous wires from household appliances are not too conspicuous, they are also woven with colored threads or twine.

Conclusion

Handmade in recent years has become very popular, and weaving out laces, ropes, and threads is relatively easy - even a beginner can cope with most patterns. Original products, made with their own hands, will make the house cozy, for a long time pleasing the eyes of the owners, their guests. A lot of great ideas in the field of macrame appear in the world every day, most of them are easy to find in the world wide web, special literature.
