How to make a storage box for yourself?

In our article you will learn how to make a storage box do it yourself. Manufacturing technology is very simple, so let's get started.

Before you begin, prepare everything you need, namely:

cardboard box of the desired volume,
a piece of cloth (it is better to make a choice in favor of dense matter),
glue, PVA or any other, for gluing fabric and paper.

You will also need the following tools - a cardboard knife, scissors, a needle and thread in the color of a cloth or a sewing machine, pins.

We make a box with an open top, so the first thing to do is to cut the top covers of the box with a knife, as a result you should have a box made of cardboard.

DIY storage box, it will always be beneficial to differ from the purchase option, because the color, size, length of the handles and in general their presence are determined by you. If you do not need pens - read the next steps. If necessary, the presence of rivers do the following. Cut two rectangles from the fabric, the length and width to your taste. Gently fold, see photo. Then sew along the edge, manually or on a typewriter. Then we apply the resulting harnesses from the side of the box, in the middle, mark with a pencil the places where it is necessary to make slots for the ends of the handle, and cut out the “windows” on the box in these places. It is important to make the slits as narrow as possible, 2-3 mm, not more.

To our DIY storage box acquired a neat and attractive look, it is important not to spoil the next stage. Glue the fabric to the bottom. To do this, place the box in the center of the fabric rectangle, draw a border with a pencil, then take the box, smear the bottom with glue and lean against the sketch outlined on the fabric. Turn the box over and gently smooth the material from center to edge.

The next step is to glue the edges, we act in the same way, we coat the wall of the box, we lean against the fabric, we smooth it. To make everything smooth, do not forget to stretch the fabric before sizing. At the four corners of the box you will have triangular folds, this is an extra fabric, it must be cut off as shown in the photo.

Next to do-it-yourself storage box need to arrange the joints of the fabric on the ribs. Gently bend the fabric (see photo) and paste the layer that you plan to leave at the bottom.

To make further work easier, it is better to allow the glue to dry out, but for now we coat the side surfaces of the box and, bending the upper layer, glue it over the bottom.

Our DIY storage box almost ready, it remains to draw the upper edge. We glue the cardboard on the inside of the box with adhesive, the width of the adhesive strip should be slightly less than the width of the covering fabric, this will save you from smudges.

The final touch, fix the handle. In the box itself, the slits are already there, it remains to make them on the fabric, the places for the cut can be identified by touch. Cut neatly, in one line, the cut in the material should be slightly shorter than on the box. When the slits are ready, we pass the handles, fasten it on the inner wall and additionally strengthen it, the method is shown in the photo.
